Kingdom Journey 2027: Zambia

Travel Dates: July 7– July 21, 2027

Overview:
Porterfield Baptist Church is in the preliminary stages of planning the 2027 Kingdom Journey (formerly referred to as mission trip). We are partnering with long-time missionary partners, Jamie and Mandy Smith. The Smith's served in Zambia, Africa for many years, until returning to America to lead IBMGlobal. Their ministry began in southern Zambia and eventually moved to northern Zambia. This Kingdom Journey will explore their ministry, the communities reached and served, and the progress since the Smith's returned to the United States. Travelers can expect to learn about Zambia culture, engage with communities, see the spiritual need of the country, and serve with locals in established ministries.

Below are the links for several the ministries travelers will explore:

Terrain
  • Mostly flat
  • Some sandy conditions
  • The only wet and hilly terrain that would be physically challenging is if you choose to do the trail at Victoria Falls in Livingstone.
Physical Exertion
  • Mostly mild in Livingstone and Kitwe
  • Physical exertion could be high in Choma with Bart Barker’s sports ministry if people engage in the athletics.
  • Physical exertion could be high if they hike the difficult trail at Victoria Falls.

Precautionary Information:
  • Team members will need gear appropriate for being outdoors: walking shoes, bug spray, sun screen, etc.
  • Might be limited cell service.

Estimated Cost Per Person: $3,500.00 (pricing might be slightly above or below based on food, airfare, lodging, ground transportation, and visa.)

Age Requirements and Notes:
Minimum age: 13
Age 13 - 17: At least ONE parent MUST accompany the minor.
  • The parent accompanying the minor will bring with them two original documents that are signed and notarized by both parents that state their joint permission for the child to travel internationally with the accompanying parent. In that letter, identify the general locations to visit and dates of travel and airfare itinerary.
  • Have a color copy of the non-accompanying parent's passport
  • Bring a copy of the child's birth certificate as well.
  • None of this may be requested when passing through immigration. But it's best practice to have it with you just in case.
Individuals 18+ only need their passport.

Vaccinations:
Zambia has no required vaccinations to enter the country. What our team recommends is for each person participating on a trip to schedule an appointment with their PCP or have their PCP refer them to a travel clinic. They can then obtain information about suggested or recommended vaccines from CDC and make their own personal choices about what to obtain for vaccines. Additionally, Zambia is a malaria country. While the risk is low in July (their cold and dry months), the participants should decide whether they want a 21-day course of anti-malaria medications to take for the trip.
